About Chlamydia
What is chlamydia?

Chlamydia is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection in the UK. It is caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. Often called the 'silent epidemic' most people don't know they have it because typically there are no symptoms. It can stay undetected for months or years, and left untreated the infection can spread and cause serious long term problems that can affect fertility and sexual health in both men and women. This risk is increased if you are infected again and again.

Chlamydia is passed on through intimate sexual contact during vaginal, anal or oral sex or through genital contact with an infected partner. It is easily treated and many pharmacies now offer a testing and treatment service - a very convenient and confidential way to deal with it.
