Health Checks
Blood pressure, BMI, glucose levels, cholesterol: all can be tested at your pharmacy
Early diagnosis saves lives
You may be feeling perfectly well, but have a niggling worry at the back of your
mind. Or you may not lead quite as healthy lifestyle as you feel you should. Or
you have a family history of heart disease, diabetes or other condition.
Whatever your reason, you may be considering having a health check up –
and your local pharmacy is the ideal place to start.
Ask your pharmacist about health screening and what diagnostic tests are available.
You can buy kits from pharmacies to use at home and your pharmacist can help
you to interpret the results or your pharmacy may offer a range of screening
services together with an analysis of results and follow-up advice.
A group of very simple tests – height and weight (to give a BMI reading),
blood pressure and total cholesterol – together with some information
about your medical history and lifestyle can give a very good indication of
the state of your general health and can be done in many local pharmacies.
- Pharmacists who offer a diagnostic screening service are subject to both professional regulation and guidance.
- Your local pharmacist can offer lifestyle advice as well as accurately evaluating test results and will refer you to your GP if necessary.
